Merely a cartoon or a project
Nowadays, everything is changing, the world is getting narrower but nobody can deny the influence of the American culture upon us. Now the question is: in an all American world, how American are we?! This is not a pessimistic question, it is rather realistic. One can provide a thousand illustrations to this Impact but let’s talk about an example that has been long hidden behind hilarious comic senses and two of the most beloved cartoon characters ever :TOM AND JERRY !!!..
We all see it as an ordinary cartoon; if we try to think little deeper, we would discover that “tom and jerry” is very much a representation of American culture. For instance, if we have a look at the household where all the adventures take place, we learn a lot about the American culture starting from its architecture (the backyard and the front yard of the house.), furniture, and even its social structure. The latter can be seen in the character of the maid being black, rude, unfashionable and fat .The house owner on the other hand is a white, boastful, fine and graceful lady .The colours and the music thus can b really influential. If you ask a child to draw a mouse, he would draw a brown mouse with round ears and lovely face. In other words , he would draw character of jerry !!!. Probably, the episode of “concerto” where Tom simulates LUCIANO PAVAROTTI is everybody’s favourite, don’t you remember:”Fiiiiiiiiiiigaaaaro,Fiiigaro…Figaro…Figaro…figaro…Lalalalaaaaaa…Lalalaaaaa”!!children love how it sounds and imitate it. Do you have a mobile phone?!!!Don’t you have the “Tom and Jerry” ring tone on it ,or at least had it once ?!! !seven o’clock is the hour when all the family sits around the dinner table because it’s “Tom and Jerry”time!. actually ,the expression "Tom and Jerry” is sorts of idiom that we use to say for example :my little sons always fight just like Tom and Jerry !!!Many wonder if this Impact was planned or spontaneous, and this matter is still open to discussion.
In fact, the majority with no doubt agree that it is just cartoon , a very funny one that is made for kids to make them laugh and enjoy their time in front of TV .
However, we notice that even adults watch it and laugh too , and the problem is that sometimes kids get bored of it but adults don’t !!What’s the matter?! This is What makes a little minority strongly believe that Tom and jerry is an international project put to help the spread of American culture . This minority_ that supposed to have the ability to read between the lines_ didn’t stop at this level but went a bit farther and compared “Tom and Jerry» Agent Red’, the chemical that had been used by the US army during the war in Vietnam to kill the Vietnamese generations. Actually, they exaggerated in such a comparison but they insist that “Tom and Jerry” is not just a cartoon but a cultural invasion represented in a childish innocent Image. “Tom and Jerry” is a just one of the very large number of examples concerning the different faces of the American culture that smoothly invades the whole world everyday. But we don’t know whether fortunately or unfortunately ,we receive it with arms wide open ,accept it then bit by bit embrace it and finally swallow everything without even trying to know: how, why…etc. All in All, the USA succeeded in filling our brains with its culture because it didn’t face any kind of rejection from our part but a total blind acceptance. This is the so-called “the Modern colonization» isn’t it?!!...
